We handcraft your home on our building site located in St-Faustin-Lac-Carré, Québec on highway 117 near Mont-Tremblant. We then tag all the logs, dismantle, load and transport them to your chosen location.

Every project is unique and we build from your own architectural blueprints. Our experienced team will assist you in adapting your plans to log home specifications. We can also prepare your plans according to your specifications. Our architectural technologist will guide you through the process.

This is the most difficult question to answer. Prices are directly related to the diameter of the logs, building specifications, number of corners and design complexity. A handcrafted log home usually costs slightly more than a conventional house or manufactured log house but its uniqueness and customized elements give it a greater value. We will be happy to answer your questions and give you a rough estimate upon request.

Today, log houses are recognized as being energy efficient. In fact, the thermal mass of a solid wood structure has a significant impact on the insulating capacity. Like no other insulating material, large pieces of solid wood have the capacity to store much energy and to release it when the temperature of the house drops. Studies conducted by the Log Home Council demonstrate that main heat losses for log houses are the same as for conventional houses. These losses are generally located in the peak of cathedral ceilings, around windows and doors and in the upper junction of the walls. An American study also determined that log thermal performance reached an R-22 factor for a 10-inch thick log wall with no other insulation. (Based on research conducted for the Log Home Council, 2003: “The Energy Performance of Log Homes”) We build with logs of a 12-inch minimum diameter and add extra insulation between to ensure greater efficiency.

The settling and shrinkage is beneficial to ensure tight joints. We take into account the shrinkage and settling in our construction methods.

Long overhangs and good eave troughs will keep the wood dry most of the time and protect it from UV rays. You will need to apply a quality stain as soon as possible after the log house is set on its foundation. This initial application will require 2 to 3 coats of a good stain product and an additional application every 4 to 7 years. It may sometimes be necessary to use a sealer on exterior cracks in order to prevent water infiltration.

We suggest water-and-oil based stains. They penetrate well and allow the wood to breathe. Water-based stains allow humidity to evaporate and ensure adequate drying. We could suggest a few products upon request.

Allow 6 to 8 weeks after work has started on our building site. It is important to plan in advance in order for us to fit your project into our building calendar.

We offer a 5-year warranty on the log work. Protection specifications and maintenance must have been respected.
